Hinze Dam Stage 3 Early Site Preparation Works

Hinze Dam Alliance will commence site preparation works from mid-October 2007 to ensure the site is safely prepared before construction of the Stage 3 project begins in January 2008. The work will be undertaken from Monday to Friday during the hours of 6:30am-5:30pm.

Site preparation works
Early site preparation works will continue up until the commencement of construction in January 2008.

Site preparation activities will include:

  • upgrading of existing fencing around the dam wall (within the Community Infrastructure Designation boundary);
  • establishment of site offices; and
  • establishment of site offices and meal rooms.

Upgrade of existing fencing
The existing perimeter fence is predominantly a three strand barbed wire fence. Approximately 2800 metres of this fence will be upgraded to a two metre high steel post and chain wire mesh fence suitable for use as the boundary of a construction site.

The fence will be erected on the existing alignment with a minimum of disturbance of surface levels and vegetation. A fire access trail that runs along the existing fence will be used to gain access for construction.

Site office and meal rooms
The site office and meal rooms will be temporary and portable structures erected for the duration of the project between 2007 until 2010. The areas where the temporary structures are located will be rehabilitated to provide a stable and safe landform once the project is completed.

These temporary buildings will be connected to existing services including power, water and septic, which are available on site. The site office and meal rooms are to be erected in the existing parkland areas adjacent to the dam wall. This area has been previously cleared of native vegetation and used for picnicking, car parks, disused quarry and grassed open space. These sites were heavily modified during construction of the Hinze Dam Stage 1 and Stage 2 projects. The Hinze Dam Alliance plans to rehabilitated these areas following the completion of Stage 3.

Access to the location of the site office and meal rooms will be from existing roads, therefore, construction of new roads or access points will not be necessary.

As a consequence of site preparation activities there will be vehicle movements along roads accessing areas on the Hinze Dam site where the works are to be carried out. There will also be an increase in Hinze Dam Alliance personnel and subcontractors carrying out works to upgrade the fence line and rehabilitate the areas for the establishment of the site office and meal rooms.
