APPROVALS

In October 2006 the Coordinator-General declared the Hinze Dam Stage 3 Project as a significant project. Although the project was declared significant it did not negate the legislative requirements to obtain all relevant planning and environmental approvals under State legislation. Some relevant legislation applicable to the project are:

  • Integrated Planning Act 1997
  • Water Act 2000
  • Vegetation Management Act 1999
  • Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Commonwealth)
  • State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971
  • Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
  • Environmental Protection Act 1994
  • Land Act 1994
  • Nature Conservation Act 1992

In October 2007 Gold Coast City Council received State Government approval for the proposed Hinze Dam Stage 3 project.

The Coordinator-General’s report has been sent to the Federal Government for assessment under the Environmental Project and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
